Touchdowns, total yards, and sacks are the headlines. They're easy to count and fit neatly into a box score. But to truly evaluate NFL prospects, we need to look deeper. The difference between a future star and a first-round bust often lies not in raw production, but in efficiency.
Think of it as two separate but related concepts: a Production Profile and an Efficiency Score. A Production Profile tallies what a player did—the raw numbers. An Efficiency Score measures how well they did it on a per-opportunity basis. A running back with 1,500 yards on 400 carries is productive, but a back with 1,200 yards on 200 carries is far more efficient. In the NFL, where opportunities are earned, efficiency is a better predictor of success.
This brings us to the concept of 'delta'—the gap between a player's athletic testing and their actual game performance. A high (RAS) shows elite physical potential. However, if that athleticism doesn't translate into efficient play, it's a major red flag. The best prospects marry elite traits with elite efficiency.
The Wide Receiver Equation
For wide receivers, total receiving yards can be misleading. A receiver on a pass-happy team who runs 60 routes a game will naturally accumulate more yards than one on a run-first offense. A more telling metric is Yards Per Route Run (YPRR). This measures a receiver's efficiency in generating yardage every single time they are a designated pass catcher on a play.
In the 2025 class, this metric helps clarify the top tier. Players like Tetairoa McMillan and Luther Burden III consistently post elite YPRR numbers. This shows they aren't just products of their offensive system; they actively create yards and win their matchups with remarkable consistency. A high YPRR is one of the strongest indicators of a receiver's ability to transition to the NFL, where creating separation and earning targets is paramount.
Decoding Quarterback Accuracy
A quarterback's standard completion percentage can be easily inflated by a high volume of screen passes and checkdowns. To get a truer sense of their accuracy, analysts use (ACP). This metric removes plays that don't reflect a quarterback's skill, such as dropped passes, spikes, throwaways, and passes batted at the line of scrimmage.
For prospects like Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward, ACP provides critical context. It showcases their ability to deliver accurate, catchable balls downfield and under pressure. A high ACP suggests a quarterback has excellent ball placement and decision-making, traits that are essential for thriving against the complex defensive schemes they'll face on Sundays.

Pressures Over Sacks
For edge rushers, sack totals are often a 'lie'. Sacks can be circumstantial—a quarterback holding the ball too long, a busted protection, or a simple cleanup play. A much better measure of a pass rusher's impact is their —the percentage of pass-rushing snaps where they generate a hurry, hit, or sack on the quarterback. Pressure Rate is more stable year-over-year and more predictive of future sack production.
This is why players like Abdul Carter or Mykel Williams might be labeled 'high-risk' despite their elite physical tools. If their pressure rate doesn't match their athletic profile, it suggests they aren't consistently winning their reps. Conversely, a player with a high pressure rate and moderate sack totals is often a safer bet, as they demonstrate the translatable skill of disrupting the quarterback play after play.
By combining these advanced metrics, teams can build a much more accurate forecast for a prospect. They move from simple counting to understanding context, efficiency, and translatable skills, which is the key to a successful draft.
