Central vertigo is less common but often more serious. It stems from a problem within the brain itself, specifically in an area called the brainstem or the cerebellum, which are crucial for processing balance information.

Symptoms of central vertigo can be different. The spinning sensation might be less intense, but it's often accompanied by other neurological signs like difficulty speaking, double vision, or weakness in an arm or leg. Causes of central vertigo can include strokes, tumors, or multiple sclerosis.
