What Is a Stock

A Piece of the Company

Have you ever shared a big, yummy pizza with your friends? Everyone gets a slice. A whole pizza is made of many small slices.

Think of stocks as pizza slices.

A company can be like a big pizza. And a stock is like one slice of that pizza. If you have a stock, you own a tiny piece of the company.

Let's imagine your favorite toy company. They make all the best teddy bears and race cars. That company is the whole pizza. When you buy one stock, you get one slice. You become a part-owner of the toy company!

stock

noun

A small piece of a company that you can own.

Why Own a Piece?

When you own a piece of the company, you are part of their team. If the toy company sells lots and lots of toys and does really well, your little slice of the pizza can become more valuable. It's like your one slice gets bigger and has more toppings!

When the company does well, your stock does well too.

So, a stock is just a way to own a tiny part of something big. It means you believe the company will do great things, and you want to be a part of it.
