Crypto-collateralized stablecoins are more decentralized. Instead of relying on a bank, they are backed by other cryptocurrencies locked in a smart contract. To account for the volatility of the collateral, these stablecoins are usually "over-collateralized," meaning more than $1 worth of crypto is held for every $1 stablecoin issued.
Algorithmic stablecoins are the most experimental. They don't use collateral at all. Instead, they use complex algorithms to automatically increase or decrease the supply of tokens to keep the price stable. This model is innovative but has proven to be riskier and more difficult to sustain.
