Sculpting the Lower Face

Your 28-Day Regimen Begins

This first week kicks off your new 10-minute daily habit by focusing on the lower face. We will use advanced resistance and sculpting techniques to redefine the jawline and strengthen the neck muscles that provide structural support.

Jawline and Neck Sculpting

To begin, we'll use a powerful resistance exercise to lengthen the neck and lift the jowls. This is often called the 'Swan Neck' or 'Duck Bill'.

Sit or stand with a straight back. Tilt your head back and look at the ceiling. Now, push your lower jaw forward to create an underbite, and try to 'kiss' the ceiling. You should feel a strong pull along the front of your neck and under your chin. Hold this for 10 seconds, relax, and repeat five times.

This movement directly targets the platysma, a broad sheet of muscle that extends from the collarbone up the sides of the neck to the corner of the jaw. As this muscle loses tone, it contributes to the appearance of sagging skin. Strengthening it creates a natural lift.

Poor posture is a major contributor to a sagging lower face, especially for women over 40. A 'forward head' position shortens the neck muscles and can lead to fluid accumulation, forming a double chin.

To counteract this, integrate simple chest-opening movements into your day. Stand in a doorway and place your forearms on the frame, with your elbows slightly below your shoulders. Step forward gently with one foot until you feel a stretch across your chest. Hold for 30 seconds. This helps pull your shoulders back and align your head correctly over your spine.

Tongue Posture and Deep Tissue Work

Sculpting the jawline isn't just about external exercises; it also involves what's happening inside your mouth. This is where mewing comes in. It's the practice of maintaining correct tongue posture against the roof of your mouth. By doing so, you engage the underlying muscles and encourage a more defined jawline over time.

Mewing

verb

The practice of resting the entire tongue against the roof of the mouth (the palate), which can help improve jaw alignment and facial structure.

Finally, we'll use deep tissue massage to release tension and sculpt the jawbone. Make fists with both hands and use the knuckles of your index and middle fingers. Apply firm pressure starting from the center of your chin. Glide your knuckles along your jawbone, moving outwards towards your ears. Repeat this motion 10 times. This technique helps to stimulate blood flow and activate the deep facial tissues.

Consistency is key. These exercises create subtle changes that build up over time. A few minutes each day is more effective than a longer session once a week.

Let's check your understanding of these foundational techniques.
