This led them to move from the bustling capital to Gateshead, a town in northeast England. At the time, Gateshead was becoming a major center for Haredi Judaism in Europe. It was home to a renowned yeshiva and a vibrant, close-knit community dedicated to Torah study. This relocation placed young Matisyahu at the heart of one of the most important centers of Jewish scholarship outside of Eastern Europe.

For his advanced education, Rabbi Salomon returned to London to study at Yeshivas Etz Chaim. A yeshiva is an institution focused on the study of traditional religious texts, primarily the Talmud. It was here that he would immerse himself in the rigorous intellectual and spiritual discipline that would define his life.

At Etz Chaim, he encountered a figure who would become the most significant influence on his development: Rabbi Elyah Lopian. Rabbi Lopian was a towering figure, known for his wisdom, piety, and deep understanding of human nature. He served as the yeshiva's Mashgiach Ruchani, a role that goes far beyond a typical teacher or dean.

The relationship between a student and a great rabbi, a talmid and a rebbe, is central to Jewish tradition. For Rabbi Salomon, Rabbi Lopian was that guiding figure. He didn't just learn texts from him; he learned how to live. Rabbi Lopian's teachings, particularly his emphasis on self-awareness and character refinement, left an indelible mark on his student.
