Quantitative vs. Qualitative

So, how is quantitative analysis different from its counterpart, qualitative analysis? The main distinction lies in the type of information they use.

Quantitative analysis deals with numbers and things you can measure. Think of multiple-choice surveys, experiments, and sales reports. It answers questions like “how many,” “how often,” and “how much.”

Qualitative analysis, on the other hand, deals with non-numerical information like descriptions, opinions, and observations. It comes from interviews, focus groups, and open-ended survey questions. It’s used to explore questions like “why” and “how.”

Imagine a coffee shop wants to improve its business. Quantitative analysis could tell them their busiest hour is 8 AM and their best-selling drink is the latte. Qualitative analysis, through customer interviews, could reveal why customers love the latte—because of its unique blend of beans.
