Progesterone

After ovulation, progesterone takes the lead. It keeps the uterine lining thick and ready, and if pregnancy occurs, its levels remain high. If not, progesterone levels fall, signaling your body to shed the lining and begin a new cycle. Progesterone also has a calming, balancing effect on the body and brain, often counteracting some of estrogen's more stimulating effects.
