- A code generated by an authenticator app on your smartphone.
- A tap on a physical security key plugged into your computer.
- Your fingerprint or a face scan.
Without this second piece of information, access is denied. This means that even if a hacker steals your password from a company's database, they still can't log into your account because they don't have your phone, your security key, or your fingerprint.
Passwords can be guessed, forgotten, or stolen in large-scale data breaches. Relying on just a password is risky. 2FA provides a strong defense against common cyberattacks like phishing and credential stuffing, where attackers use stolen passwords to try and access multiple services.
By enabling 2FA, you create a security checkpoint that confirms your identity in two different ways, making it significantly harder for unauthorized users to gain access.
