Account Infrastructure Setup

Your Path to Affiliate Marketing

To get started with TikTok Shop affiliate marketing, you first need the right type of account. Your personal TikTok profile isn't equipped for this. You have two main paths: the Creator route or the Seller route. The path you choose depends entirely on your current follower count.

The standard Creator route requires you to have at least 5,000 followers and be 18 years or older. If you meet these criteria, you'll find affiliate options directly within your app's creator tools. For everyone else, there's a powerful workaround: setting up a Seller account.

TikTok affiliate marketing is a performance-driven approach to influencer marketing where brands and creators team up to promote products using trackable links or TikTok Shop integrations.

The Seller Center Workaround

The Seller Center is TikTok's hub for businesses to manage their products, orders, and promotions. By registering as a seller, you gain access to the affiliate tools without meeting the follower requirement. This method essentially treats you as a business entity on the platform, even if you're just an individual.

Here’s how to set it up:

  1. Navigate to the Seller Center: Go to the TikTok Shop Seller Center website on a desktop computer. It's a separate portal from the main TikTok app.
  2. Sign Up: Create an account using your email or phone number.
  3. Choose Your Business Type: You'll be asked if you are an 'Individual' or a 'Corporation'. For most people starting out, 'Individual' is the correct choice.
  4. Provide Your Information: You'll need to submit basic personal information and a form of government-issued ID, like a driver's license or passport, for verification.
  5. Enter : This is crucial. You'll need to provide your Social Security Number (SSN) or Employer Identification Number (EIN) for tax purposes. TikTok reports earnings to the IRS, so this step is mandatory.

Linking Accounts & Getting Paid

Once your Seller Center account is approved, the final step is to link your TikTok profile. This is what connects your selling dashboard to the account where you'll actually post videos.

Inside the Seller Center, navigate to 'My Account' and select 'Linked TikTok Accounts'. Here, you'll see an option to link an 'Official Account'. This should be your main TikTok profile that you want to associate with the shop.

You can also link up to four additional . These are other TikTok profiles you might use for promotional purposes. This allows you to generate affiliate links that can be used across multiple accounts, all managed from one central dashboard.

Finally, you need to set up your payment information. This is done in the 'Finance' section of the Seller Center. You'll be asked to create a 'Commission Account' by linking your bank account details. This is where TikTok will deposit your affiliate earnings. Double-check that your routing and account numbers are correct to avoid any payment delays.

With your account set up, verified, and linked, you're ready to start finding products and creating content.
