Introduction to SEO
What Is SEO?
Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is the process of helping your website show up more often and higher up in search engine results. When people search for topics related to your site on Google, Bing, or DuckDuckGo, you want your page to be one of the first things they see. This is called increasing your visibility.
Think of the internet as a massive, ever-growing library. A search engine is like a librarian that helps people find the exact book (or webpage) they need. SEO is how you make sure your book is easy for the librarian to find, understand, and recommend to readers.
The goal of SEO is to attract visitors who are actively looking for the information, products, or services you offer. This is known as organic traffic, because you're not paying for ads to get those clicks.
How Search Engines Work
Search engines are powerful, but they don't magically know about every page on the web. They use a methodical, three-step process to discover, organize, and display content from across the internet.
To deliver relevant search results, search engines like Google follow three key processes - crawling, indexing, and serving.
