Introduction to DV360

What is Display & Video 360?

Display & Video 360, or DV360, is Google's all-in-one tool for running large-scale advertising campaigns. It’s what's known as a Demand-Side Platform (DSP). Think of it like a sophisticated control center that lets advertisers buy ad space across the internet automatically.

Instead of calling up individual websites to place an ad, you use DV360 to access a massive auction for ad space on websites, in apps, and even on connected TVs. You tell the system who you want to reach, and it finds the right moments to show your ads to the right people, all in real-time. It’s a core part of the larger Google Marketing Platform.

Using a DSP like DV360 gives advertisers immense reach and precise control, allowing them to manage complex campaigns across different channels from one central location.

The Core Modules

The DV360 interface is organized into five main sections, called modules. Each one handles a different part of the campaign process. Understanding these modules is the key to understanding the platform.

They are all accessible from the main navigation menu on the left side of the dashboard. Think of them as specialized departments that all work together.

Let's look at what each module does.

ModulePurpose
CampaignsThe main control panel. This is where you set up and manage your advertising campaigns, including budgets, schedules, and overall goals.
AudiencesDefines who you want to reach. You can build audiences based on demographics, interests, online behavior, or your own company data.
CreativesThe home for your actual ads. You upload, manage, and organize all your visual and video ad files here.
InventoryControls where your ads appear. You can choose specific websites, apps, or types of content where you want your ads to run.
InsightsWhere you see results. This module provides reports and analytics to measure how your campaigns are performing.

Think of it like planning a party. Campaigns is the overall event plan. Audiences is your guest list. Creatives are the invitations. Inventory is the venue, and Insights is finding out who showed up and had a good time.

How They Work Together

No module in DV360 works in isolation. They are designed to be used together to create a smooth workflow from start to finish. A typical process involves moving between these modules.

  1. You start by uploading your ads in the Creatives module and defining your target audience in the Audiences module.

  2. You then select where these ads can appear using the Inventory module.

  3. Finally, you bring all these pieces together in the Campaigns module, where you structure the campaign, set the budget, and launch it.

Once the campaign is live, you'll spend your time in the Insights module, tracking performance and making adjustments back in the other modules to improve your results. This integration is what makes DV360 a powerful and centralized platform for managing programmatic advertising.
