These were monumental engineering feats that required immense skill in planning, design, and construction. Branches of the Field

There are two types of civil engineering roles within the various specialisms: consultants who focus on design work and generally spend more time in the office or working with clients, and contractors who are more involved with keeping an eye on the physical construction and are usually based on-site.

Because their work has such a direct impact on public safety and well-being, civil engineers are bound by a strong code of ethics. Their primary duty is to hold paramount the safety, health, and welfare of the public. This means designing structures that are safe and sustainable, using resources wisely, and considering the long-term environmental and societal effects of their projects.
Every project, from a small rural bridge to a massive urban redevelopment, involves balancing technical requirements with economic, social, and environmental considerations. It's a complex task with lasting consequences.
