Every week, an island in time appears. From sunset on Friday to nightfall on Saturday, Jewish communities observe Shabbat, the Sabbath. It’s a day set apart from the rest of the week, dedicated to rest, joy, and spiritual renewal.

The idea of a weekly day of rest is woven into the very beginning of the Torah. The book of Genesis describes God creating the world in six days. On the seventh day, God ceased from this work and rested.
