Introduction to H3H3

Meet the Kleins

The story of H3H3 Productions begins with a connection that crossed continents. Ethan Klein, an American, and Hila Hacmon, an Israeli, met in Jerusalem. Ethan was on a Birthright trip, and Hila was serving in the Israel Defense Forces. Their relationship grew, they married, and eventually moved to the United States together, first to Los Angeles, then New York, and back to LA.

This personal journey is the foundation of their creative partnership. Ethan's background in English literature and Hila's artistic talents from her time at the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design created a unique blend of skills that would soon define their online presence.

The Birth of H3H3

In 2011, the couple launched the YouTube channel H3H3 Productions. In the beginning, their projects were mostly experimental videos for Hila's college courses. But the channel soon found its footing in the world of reaction videos, a popular format on the platform.

However, their approach was different. Instead of just showing their faces while watching another video, the Kleins created satirical commentary. They would intersperse clips of the source video with their own critiques, parodies, and comedic sketches.

Their early work often targeted bizarre internet trends, cringe-worthy videos, and questionable online personalities. Ethan would take on the role of the outspoken critic, while Hila was often the more reserved, witty observer behind the camera. This dynamic became their signature style, dissecting internet culture with a sharp, humorous edge.

More Than Just Reactions

As their audience grew, so did the scope of their content. H3H3 Productions evolved beyond the reaction format. The Kleins started producing original comedy sketches, vlogs that gave viewers a peek into their daily lives, and critiques of YouTube's platform policies.

The most significant evolution was the launch of the H3 Podcast in 2017. This marked a shift from short, tightly edited videos to long-form, conversational content. The podcast allowed them to interview a wide range of guests, from other YouTubers and celebrities to scientists and politicians. It transformed their channel from a simple comedy duo into a broader commentary and interview platform, solidifying their place as major figures in the online media landscape.
