Founding and Vision

An Idea Born in New York

In 2021, in New York City, Sam Glassenberg, Andrew Rosen, and Stephanie Hodgkins launched a new venture called Nourish. The founding team brought a potent mix of experience to the table. With backgrounds spanning product development and healthcare, they were uniquely positioned to spot a problem that was hiding in plain sight within the American healthcare system.

A Gap in the System

Many nutrition startups target weight loss, operating on a cash-pay basis. Nourish, however, was founded on a different principle: that should be accessible and affordable through insurance. The founders identified a frustrating paradox. While many health insurance plans cover sessions with registered dietitians (RDs), patients often struggle to find a provider who is in-network and accepting new clients.

For the dietitians themselves, the administrative burden of dealing with insurance companies can be overwhelming. The paperwork, credentialing, and billing processes are often so complex that many qualified RDs opt out of accepting insurance altogether, limiting their practice to patients who can pay out-of-pocket.

This created a massive gap. Patients with insurance benefits couldn't use them, and dietitians were cut off from a huge pool of potential clients who needed their help. Nourish was built specifically to bridge this gap, creating a seamless platform that handles the insurance side of things so RDs and patients can focus on what matters: improving health.

A Vision for Integrated Care

The founders' vision extended beyond just making connections. They aimed to integrate registered dietitians into the primary care continuum. Instead of nutrition being an afterthought or a niche specialty, Nourish works to make it a standard part of a patient's overall healthcare plan.

The goal is to position RDs as crucial members of a patient's care team, working alongside doctors to manage and prevent chronic illness through evidence-based nutritional guidance.

This approach helps ensure that a doctor's recommendation to "eat healthier" is followed up with concrete, personalized support from a qualified expert, all covered by the patient's existing insurance plan.
