Resistance bands are different. They offer what's called linear variable resistance. The further you stretch a band, the more tension it creates. This means an exercise is easiest at the beginning of the movement and gets progressively harder as you approach the peak of the contraction. This mirrors the muscle's natural strength curve in many exercises, providing more resistance when the muscle is in its strongest position.

You can use a dedicated wall or door anchor, or loop the band around a sturdy, immovable object like a heavy sofa leg or a support column. Never anchor a band to something light or unstable, like a chair leg. The dictates that the band stores significant potential energy when stretched; if the anchor fails, the band can snap back with considerable force.
Care and Safety
Home equipment requires simple but regular checks. Before each workout, give your resistance bands a quick inspection. Look for any small nicks, cuts, or worn spots, especially near the handles or ends. A small tear can quickly become a complete snap under tension. Store bands away from direct sunlight, which can degrade the rubber over time.
For dumbbells, especially adjustable ones, ensure all collars and pins are securely fastened before you begin a set. A loose weight plate can be dangerous and disrupt your form. A quick wipe-down after use will also prevent rust and keep them in good condition.
