What Is Automation?

The Main Flavors of Automation

These bots can log into applications, copy and paste data, move files, and fill in forms, just like a person would. It's perfect for tasks that follow clear, rule-based steps, such as processing invoices or updating customer records across different software that don't normally talk to each other.

AI-Driven Automation is the most advanced form. While RPA bots follow explicit instructions, AI-driven systems can learn, adapt, and make decisions. They can understand unstructured data like emails or customer support chats, recognize patterns, and respond intelligently. A customer service chatbot that can understand a user's problem and provide a relevant solution is a great example of AI-driven automation.

Simple rule of thumb: Process automation connects the systems, RPA mimics user actions within those systems, and AI automation adds a layer of intelligence and decision-making.
