Solving Problems for People
Design thinking is a method for solving complex problems by focusing on the people you're trying to help. It’s less of a rigid formula and more of a mindset. The goal is to understand human needs, reframe problems in human-centric ways, brainstorm many possible solutions, and test them out.

Define
Next, you’ll take what you learned in the empathize stage and analyze your observations. The goal is to synthesize them into a clear problem statement. This isn't just about listing issues; it's about framing the problem from the user's perspective. A well-defined problem sets you up for success in the stages to follow.
For example, instead of saying "We need to increase user engagement," a human-centered problem statement might be "Sarah, a busy working mom, needs a way to quickly find healthy recipes because she has limited time to plan meals."
Ideate
With a clear problem defined, it's time to generate ideas. The ideation stage is a judgment-free zone. The aim is to brainstorm a wide range of potential solutions. Think quantity over quality at this point. Wild ideas are encouraged, as they can often lead to the most innovative solutions. Techniques like brainstorming, mind mapping, and sketching are common here.
Prototype
Now you start turning your ideas into something tangible. A prototype is a scaled-down, experimental version of the product. It can be anything from a series of paper sketches to a simple interactive digital model. The key is to create something quickly and cheaply that users can interact with. The purpose of a prototype isn't to be perfect; it's to test your ideas and learn.
Test
Finally, you test your prototypes with real users. This is where you get feedback. You observe how people interact with your solution and listen to what they have to say. The insights gained from the testing stage are used to refine the prototype, redefine the problem, or even generate new ideas. This often leads you back to earlier stages, creating a cycle of continuous improvement.
This iterative cycle of prototyping and testing is at the heart of design thinking. It allows teams to fail early and inexpensively, leading to better and more successful outcomes.
