Behavioral Adaptations
Behavioral adaptations are the actions or things an organism does to survive. These can be instinctive, meaning the animal is born knowing how to do them, or they can be learned.
The annual migration of birds is a well-known behavioral adaptation. Many species fly south for the winter to find warmer climates and more abundant food, returning north in the spring to breed. This journey is an instinctual behavior passed down through generations.
A more local example is a squirrel burying nuts in the fall. This behavior ensures it will have a food source during the lean winter months when food is scarce. The squirrel isn't taught to do this; it's a built-in survival strategy.
