This is known as the forgetting curve. After just one day, you might forget more than half of what you studied.
The good news is that we can fight this natural tendency to forget. Each time you review the material, the rate of forgetting slows down. The memory becomes more stable. Reviewing at the right moment—just as you're about to forget—is the most efficient way to flatten the curve and lock knowledge into your long-term memory.
As the graph shows, without review, your memory retention drops quickly. But with each spaced review, the information sticks around longer. The forgetting curve becomes shallower, meaning you need to review less frequently over time to maintain the same level of recall. For your final exams, this means that material you study in September can still be fresh in December if you review it strategically.
