At the lowest physical level, a CPU is essentially a massive, highly coordinated network of microscopic acting as electronic switches. By wiring these switches together in specific geometric patterns on a silicon die, we create —such as AND, OR, XOR, and NAND. These gates are the mathematical building blocks of the entire processor.
By combinatorially linking these logic gates, we build complex execution blocks like the Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU). When you write software, your compiled binary code is just a stream of electrical high and low voltages that physically route through this massive maze of switches, changing their states billions of times per second to compute results.
