Poetry

Welcome! I'm so excited to dive into the world of poetry with you. It's one of the most powerful and personal ways we have to express ourselves, and you don't need any special background to enjoy or write it.

To make sure we tailor this session to exactly what you want, are you more interested in learning how to read and analyze poetry, writing your own poetry, or a mix of both?

I'd love a mix of both reading and writing

A mix of both is the perfect way to do it! Reading other people's work gives you a toolbox of ideas, and writing lets you use those tools to express your own unique voice.

What is Poetry?

At its heart, poetry is simply communication with the volume turned up. While prose (like essays or novels) is great for explaining things directly, poetry uses the rhythm, sound, and even the shape of words to make you feel something. Think of prose as walking down a sidewalk to get to a destination, while poetry is more like —the way you move is just as important as where you're going. It's a way to capture a big emotion, a tiny moment, or a complex truth using as few words as possible.
