To understand Iceland's unique landscape, we first have to look at where it sits on the globe. Iceland is isolated in the North Atlantic Ocean, perched directly between North America and mainland Europe. It is the westernmost country in Europe, located just a tiny bit south of the .
Because of this extreme northern location, you might expect it to be an unlivable block of ice. However, its climate is surprisingly moderate but cool. Winters are relatively mild and summers stay damp and fresh. This is all thanks to the warm waters of the wrapping around the island.
