Principles of Stoicism
Welcome to our session on Stoicism! I'm really looking forward to exploring this practical philosophy with you.
Before we dive into the core concepts, I'd love to learn a little bit about what draws you to Stoicism, and if you have any specific areas in your life you're hoping to apply it to.
I want to handle stress and daily anxieties better.
It makes total sense that you want to target stress and anxiety. Stoicism was designed from the ground up thousands of years ago not as a theory to write books about, but as a mental toolkit specifically built to help us keep our cool when life gets chaotic and overwhelming.
To understand how it works, we should start with what Stoicism actually is. At its core, Stoicism is an ancient Greek and Roman philosophy that focuses on building personal resilience, cultivating , and achieving a state of deep mental tranquility.
Rather than trying to control the world around us, a Stoic focuses entirely on controlling how they process the world. It's like building an internal shield; the stressors are still there, but they no longer have the power to pierce your peace of mind.
