It is made of individual pavers, and they are sinking or uneven.
It is actually very common for individual pavers to sink or wobble over time, but the great news is that you do not have to rip up your whole patio to fix it! Because are individual units resting on a flexible bed rather than a solid slab of poured concrete, you can easily lift up just the sunken section, rebuild the foundation underneath, and pop them right back into place.
To fix this, we will use a process often called "lifting and resetting." Before you can level anything out, you have to get the sunken blocks out of the ground.
To lift out the first few uneven pavers without damaging them, you can gently pry them up using two flathead screwdrivers or a putty knife inserted into the joints on opposite sides. Once you wiggle the first one loose, the surrounding ones will be much easier to lift out by hand.
What tools will I need for this?
You do not need a massive toolbox for this project, but having the right lineup will make the job much faster and save your back. The core toolset is simple: a pry bar or two flathead screwdrivers to lift the pavers, a rubber mallet to tap them back in, a level to make sure they are flat, a broom, and some extra jointing sand.
Before you begin, don't forget to protect yourself. Wearing heavy-duty work gloves will protect your fingers from getting pinched between the heavy stones, and a pair of safety goggles is highly recommended when you are sweeping or pouring dry sand, as fine dust and particles can easily blow up into your eyes.
