It is great to have you back! Since you have already seen the formula, we can make this refresher quick and highly visual so it really sticks. Let's start at the very beginning of the geometry: the shape itself.

The Right-Angled Triangle

The only works on one specific type of shape: a right-angled triangle (or simply, a right triangle). This is a triangle where one of the three internal angles is exactly 9090^\circ, forming a perfect square corner. No matter how wild or stretched out the other two angles are, that single 9090^\circ angle is the golden rule. If a triangle doesn't have a right angle, this theorem cannot be used.

I have set up a placeholder above where we will generate a neat diagram of this triangle! As you can see, the sides of a right triangle are split into two categories: the two shorter sides that meet at the right angle (the legs), and the long diagonal side opposite the right angle (the hypotenuse).
