I am okay with algebra but a bit rusty on trig. I am learning this for a class or school prep.

The Math of Motion and Change

At its absolute heart, is the mathematical study of continuous change. If algebra is about finding a static value (like solving for xx in a fixed equation), calculus is about analyzing things that are actively in motion, growing, or shrinking.
Think about a falling object. If you drop a ball, its speed is constantly changing every single millisecond because of gravity. Normal math can tell you its average speed over a whole trip, but it struggles to tell you how fast the ball is falling at one single, exact frozen moment. Calculus gives us the superpower to calculate that exact instant.
