In the early 1900s, the British was dominating the Atlantic with the fastest passenger ships in the world, the Mauretania and the Lusitania.
Rather than trying to beat Cunard in speed, the owners of the decided to focus on unprecedented size, luxury, and comfort. This strategy led to the creation of the grand 'Olympic-class' liners: the Olympic, the Titanic, and the Britannic.
