The Birth of a Giant
To understand the Titanic, we have to travel back to the early 1900s. The ship was constructed in Belfast, Ireland, by the prominent shipbuilding firm for the White Star Line. Her construction began in March 1909, and she was built to be the absolute pinnacle of maritime engineering and luxury of her era.
She wasn't just a ship; she was designed to be a floating palace. The Titanic was built alongside her sister ship, the , as part of a grand plan to dominate the highly competitive transatlantic passenger trade. At the time of her launch, the Titanic was the largest man-made moving object on the planet, measuring about 882 feet long.
