Neuroscience

Welcome to the session! I'm really excited to dive into the human brain and the nervous system with you.

To help me tailor our sessions, could you tell me a little bit about why you are interested in neuroscience and if you have any previous background in biology or science?

I have some science background and want to understand the biology deeper.

It is great to have you here! Since you already have a background in science, we can bypass the ultra-basic overviews and dive straight into the elegant biological mechanisms that make the nervous system tick. Let us start by defining exactly what is and why it requires us to look at the body through several different lenses at once.

The Ultimate Multidisciplinary Science

Because the brain is arguably the most complex structure in the known universe, no single scientific discipline can explain it alone. To truly understand how we think, move, and feel, we have to look at the nervous system across multiple scales. We study it at the molecular and cellular levels (like how ions cross a membrane), the systems level (how neural circuits process vision or coordinate a step), and the cognitive level (how those circuits produce complex behavior and memory). This is why modern neuroscience seamlessly blends biology, chemistry, physics, and even computational mathematics.

Higher-Order Brain Function

To kick off our journey, what aspect of brain biology are you most eager to explore first? We can look at the microscopic chemistry of a single neuron, or zoom out to see how the whole system connects.
