I want to learn psychology

I would love to help you dive into the fascinating world of psychology! To make sure we customize this journey just right for you, could you share a bit about what brings you here and whether you have any particular areas of interest?

I want to understand social behavior and how people interact.

That makes total sense! Social behavior is one of the most exciting areas of psychology, and we will definitely be spending some dedicated time on how we interact, influence, and connect with one another.

Before we dive into those social dynamics, it helps to understand the foundational tools and history of the broader field. To help me tailor our pace and depth, could you tell me a little bit about why you're interested in social behavior specifically, and if you have any prior experience or background knowledge in psychology?

I want to apply it to my work and everyday relationships.

What Exactly is Psychology?

To kick off our journey, we should pin down what we actually mean when we talk about "psychology." At its core, psychology is the of both behavior and mental processes. It is a dual focus: we observe what people do on the outside (their behavior), and we systematically investigate what is happening on the inside (their thoughts, emotions, and brain chemistry). When you are trying to understand a coworker's reaction or build a stronger relationship, you are looking at both halves of this equation. You are observing how they behave, while trying to decode the internal mental processes driving that behavior.
