Think of a neuron like a tree. The "branches" at the top are called dendrites, and they act like antennas catching incoming messages from neighboring cells. The message travels through the main "trunk," called the axon, which is insulated by a fatty protective layer known as the myelin sheath. Finally, the message reaches the roots, or axon terminals, where it prepares to leap over a tiny gap to the next cell.
