greek mythology
Welcome! I'm so excited to dive into the epic, dramatic, and fascinating world of Ancient Greek mythology with you. Before we chart our course, let's make sure I tailor this adventure to exactly what you find most interesting.
To help me set up our journey, are you looking for a grand, general overview of the entire mythos, or is there a specific area—like the powerful gods, the legendary heroes, or the terrifying monsters—that you're most excited to learn about?
I'd like a general overview to start with.
A general overview is the perfect place to start. To truly understand these epic stories, we first have to look at what actually are: they are not just random fantasy tales, but a deeply connected web of legends.

At their heart, Greek myths are traditional stories that explain the origins of the world, the lives and struggles of deities, and the grand adventures of mortal heroes. Before they were ever written down on papyrus or painted onto pottery, they were sung and spoken aloud.
These tales were passed down through generations by traveling poets who memorized thousands of verses. This oral tradition meant the stories were alive, changing slightly depending on who was telling them and where they were being told. Because of this, you will often find multiple versions of the very same myth.
