Conquer Hyrox
Hyrox Race Overview
The Hyrox Race Format
Hyrox is a global fitness race that tests both your running endurance and your functional strength. The structure is the same no matter where you compete, from New York to Hong Kong. It’s a predictable challenge, which makes it perfect for focused training.
The entire race follows a simple, repeating pattern: run 1 kilometer, then complete one functional workout. You repeat this sequence eight times.
1 km Run → 1 Functional Workout → Repeat x8
This means you'll run a total of 8 kilometers and complete eight different workouts by the time you cross the finish line. All the events happen on a single indoor course, so you don't have to worry about weather. The combination of running and strength work is what makes the race a unique test of all-around fitness.
The Sequence of Events
The order of workouts is always the same. This allows you to plan a strategy for saving energy or pushing harder on certain stations. You always start with a 1 km run.
As you can see, every workout is sandwiched between two 1 km runs, except for the first and the last. The first workout is preceded by a run, and the final workout is followed by the finish line.
The Eight Workouts
The functional exercises are designed to test a wide range of physical abilities, from raw strength to muscular endurance. While the specifics of weights and distances vary by division, the movements themselves are always the same. They are:
- SkiErg: A full-body cardio machine that mimics cross-country skiing.
- Sled Push: Pushing a weighted sled across a set distance.
- Sled Pull: Pulling a weighted sled towards you using a rope.
- Burpee Broad Jumps: A combination of a burpee and a forward jump for distance.
- Rowing: A full-body cardio workout on a rowing machine.
- Farmer's Carry: Carrying a heavy weight in each hand over a set distance.
- Sandbag Lunges: Performing lunges while carrying a weighted sandbag.
- Wall Balls: Throwing a weighted ball to a specific target on a wall.
Each of these stations presents its own unique challenge. The sled work taxes your legs, the farmer's carry tests your grip, and the wall balls demand explosive power even when you're tired. Knowing this sequence is the first step in building a smart training plan.
