Ancient Roman engineering

Welcome! I'm thrilled to explore the world of Ancient Roman engineering with you. Before we dive into the incredible structures that shaped an empire, I'd love to learn a bit more about what brings you here today.

I don't know much, but I want a fun overview.

It is great to have you here, and we are going to keep this journey incredibly fun and easy to follow. We will explore how a relatively small Italian city-state transformed itself into an engineering superpower that built things so tough they are still standing today.

What is Roman Engineering?

When we think of today, we might think of complex physics, computer models, and advanced math. For the Romans, engineering was much more straightforward: it was the ultimate tool for survival, expansion, and everyday comfort. At its heart, Roman engineering was about building highly practical physical solutions to massive real-world problems. They built roads to move their armies instantly, aqueducts to bring fresh spring water to crowded cities, and massive public baths and sewers to keep those cities healthy and livable. It was about creating an indestructible, highly efficient physical network to connect and support millions of people across three continents.
