The Anatomy of the Oboe

Even without holding one yet, we can easily picture how it works. The oboe is a black wood cylinder about two feet long, packed with a complex system of delicate silver . Unlike a recorder or a whistle, you do not blow air directly into a plastic slot. Instead, you blow through a tiny, custom-made straw called a double reed.
