What is Biology?
At its most basic level, is the scientific study of life. The word itself comes from two Greek roots: bios, meaning "life," and logos, meaning "study of."
But what actually makes something "alive"? In science, we do not just rely on a gut feeling. Instead, biologists have defined a specific list of core characteristics that all living things share—from the tiniest microscopic bacteria to the largest blue whale.
