The Interview Prep Playbook: How to Walk In ReadyPodcast

Agile Master

To tailor our preparation, I'd love to learn a bit more about your background and what you are aiming for.

How much prior experience do you have as an Agile Master or working on Agile teams, and is there a specific industry or framework (like Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe) you'll be focusing on for this interview?

Sure. I started my career in the petroleum industry back in Brazil, and later I moved to Ireland because I wanted to improve my English and communication skills and also experience working in a different environment.

If I fast-forward to the experiences I think are most relevant to this position, I would start with my Continuous Improvement experience in the Philippines. Working in a factory environment taught me a lot about Lean, process improvement, quality, organization and, especially, how to identify priorities and improve the way work flows.

Then I moved to Portugal to do my MBA, and after about a year I joined Bosch in Ovar. I initially joined as the first recruiter for the site, where I helped build the recruitment function and a team from scratch.

Later, when I was working in the People Acquisition Campus, my manager actually encouraged me to learn more about Agile. She believed that some of the Agile values could also work with the team we were building, even though we weren’t a software team. That’s really when I got interested in Agile.

I started experimenting with things like Dailies and Retrospectives, and I did training and courses to understand the concepts better. Then I started adapting what I was learning to our reality rather than just copying software practices.

Some principles really stuck with me — embracing change, empowering self-organizing teams, focusing on what delivers value, and especially the idea of Inspect and Adapt through the Retrospective. I really liked the idea that a Retrospective shouldn’t just be a conversation; I measure its success by whether something actually changes as a result of it.

During that period, I also became the only Senior in the Talent Acquisition team and mentored and coached a team of around ten people across four locations in Portugal. I was also nominated as Process Owner, responsible for creating, maintaining and improving HR processes. That experience taught me a lot about coaching, leadership and influencing people without necessarily having the formal authority — leading by example rather than by title.

After that, I moved into HR Systems and the DAP platform, and that’s where I got much closer to IT, Product and Agile delivery. I was working across two projects and had to wear different hats depending on what was needed. As an acting PO, I was involved in the backlog and priorities, but a big part of my responsibility was actually coordinating change requests, managing releases and incidents, and coordinating a second-level support team across India and Portugal.

I was constantly collaborating with different stakeholders, IT developers and other support teams to understand impacts, coordinate dependencies and keep things moving. That experience gave me a much stronger understanding of how different parts of an organization need to work together to deliver and support a product.

And today, in my current QA role, I’m fully immersed in a Scrum team. I’m responsible for the QA side, but because we don’t currently have a dedicated Scrum Master, I’m also very involved in the Scrum ceremonies — Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, Retrospective and Backlog Refinement — and in bringing up impediments and improvement opportunities for the team.

So, when I look at this Agile Master opportunity, that’s what makes it interesting to me. I feel that I’ve gradually built different pieces of the role throughout my career — Continuous Improvement, Agile practices, coaching and mentoring, leadership, product and stakeholder management, and now hands-on Scrum and QA. And I think this is the opportunity where I can bring all those pieces together, with the main focus on helping the team work effectively, remove impediments and continuously improve.” This is my present yourself for the interview
