Think about how you learned something this week. Maybe you Googled it. Maybe you watched a YouTube video. Maybe you asked ChatGPT.

None of those tools were built to teach you. We just use them because we have no other option.

The new wave of AI tutors isn't fixing it. Most are chatbots in a tutor costume. Wrappers with the same loops, same drift, and the same inability to actually arrive at an outcome.

A real teacher doesn't teach like that. A real teacher has a plan. They know where you started and where you're going. They swap to a different explanation when the first one didn't land. They check that you got it before moving on.

We built Oboe a year ago to do exactly that. Tell us what you want to learn, and we work backwards from your outcome to build the course that gets you there.

But a user wrote to us recently:

He named something we'd been thinking about too. A great lesson plan is necessary, but it isn't sufficient. The best teachers don't just hand you a syllabus. They actually sit with you, notice when you’re confused, and let you go on curiosity tangents (but then pull you back to the goal).
